Highways UK is a huge event that gives the chance for all of those involved in planning designing, building, maintaining, operating and future proofing the UK’s roads to meet and discuss their solutions and products. The Highways UK event includes stands, large exhibitions and content streams shown throughout the nine on-site theatres.

Since the beginning of the Road Investment Period, Highways England have delivered many outstanding achievements from the Governments investment programme to improve the UK’s road network. To-date, almost £4bn worth of capital investments have been delivered, bringing more than £10bn of benefits. During the second year, 12 schemes were completed on or ahead of schedule, adding over 120 lane miles of capacity.

Highway England have ensured road users enjoy safe journeys with fast, reliable journey times and with minimum disruption. For example, they aim to keep roadworks scheme lengths to a maximum of 10 miles or shorter. Most recently they have also started to trial higher speed limits throughout road networks (55mph and 60 mph) to improve the flow of traffic and the driver experience without compromising safety.

With increased speed, it is important to consider what temporary vehicle restraint systems are in place and more importantly, the performance criteria of the barrier to ensure the safety of the road users and road workers at the same time.

Barrier_Guard_800_set_up.jpg   Highway Care’s BarrierGuard 800 temporary steel barrier has achieved the highest performance levels of any temporary steel barrier tested to EN1317 – achieving N2 and H2 criteria containment levels. Also has performance levels TL-3 and TL-4 to ensure use around the world is possible. BarrierGuard 800 provides a N2 W2 performance with only 200mm deflection at 70mph, saving up to 800mm of work zone.

Highway Care has a long history of working with key suppliers and customers to source and develop the latest in road safety products. As we see more investment into smart and automated technology, Highway Care continually provide the latest in technology to improve safety for the workforce out on the roads.

Highway Care’s SOSEC Highways Access Gate has increased in popularity since its initial trial on the M23 earlier this year. Designed for highways application for temporary site and works access, the barrier can be deployed quickly to provide instant security, preventing work site incursions while eliminating the need for manual gate operatives. SOSEC is perfect for long term security on major road projects.

SwiftGate is the UK’s first solar powered automated taper; designed to reduce risk by removing vulnerable workers from manually installing a taper, considered one of the most dangerous when initiating traffic management. At Highway Care we pride ourselves on the service and products that we provide, due to this high standard that we hold ourselves to we are widely regarded by our customers as being superior in terms of performance and reliability even in the most demanding of situations.
